DC, MD Hospitals Among Best US Centers for Child Treatment
Nothing and no one is more special to a parent than their kids and seeing them frail and ailing is seldom bearable. At two particular hospitals in Washington D.C. and Maryland, however, they have their best shot at getting their loved little ones treated.
Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC) at 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. and John’s Hopkins Children’s Center (JHCC) at 1800 Orleans Street, Baltimore, Maryland have been recognized, once again, among the top 10 pediatric hospitals across the nation. U.S. News & World Report said it, “aims to offer guidance for mothers and fathers seeking the best place for their ‘very sick’ child.”
In this year’s 2019-2020 compilation of top scorers, ten healthcare centers in the U.S. have earned a place on the Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll by garnering points for being highly ranked in multiple specialties. As it did last year, Boston Children’s Hospital sat at the top of the list, followed by Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at the second place. CNMC and JHCC came sixth and ninth, respectively.
“According to our analysis, these Honor Roll hospitals provide state-of-the-art medical expertise to children with rare or complex conditions. Their rankings reflect U.S. News’ assessment of their commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to young patients and their families day in and day out,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News & World Report.
Hospital Rankings by Specialty
Using data collected through a clinical survey sent to nearly 200 hospitals and a reputational survey sent to about 15,000 doctors who are pediatric specialists in America, U.S. News & World Report has also ranked hospitals in 10 specialties.
For the specialty of Neonatology dealing with ill and newborn infants, D.C.’s CNMC landed at the top of the sub-list, becoming the best such healthcare center. Elsewhere, it also became 5th in Pediatric Neurology & Neurosurgery, 6th in Pediatric Nephrology and 9th in both Pediatric Cancer and Pediatric Pulmonology & Lung Surgery.
“In addition to these service lines, today’s recognition honors countless specialists and support staff who provide unparalleled, multidisciplinary patient care. Quality care is a function of every team member performing their role well, so I credit every member of the Children’s National team for this continued high performance,” said Kurt Newman, President and CEO for CNMC.
Founded over a century ago, John’s Hopkins, likewise, clinched impressive rankings at several specialties. Its highest-ranked specialty was Pediatric Cancer (5th), followed by the 8th place in both Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Neurology & Neurosurgery and the 9th place in Pediatric Nephrology. JHCC is Maryland’s largest children’s hospital and the only state-designated trauma service and burn unit for pediatric patients.
